Default Naum 4.2 is only 1 core??

Post by Kohflote »

Hi everyone,

I read somewhere that the default Naum 4.2 is only 1 core and for multiple cores we need to change the setting/configuration.

Can someone confirm this and if is true, how to set for multiple cores.

Thank you,
Koh, Kah Huat

It's not the only MP engine that defaults to 1 core.
However, you always get the option of setting the number of cores in the parameters.

Change the No of Cores in the config file Naum.cfg

Hello !

The complete response:

A.-they are some chess engines with the autodetection function of the number of cores/threads;
B.-they are some chess engines without this function (Naum belongs to the second group);

In both A & B groups an engine can be compatible with:

1.-the Winboard protocol - (if B1 you need to set the number of cores in the configuration/initialization file or in a command line- something like -smpCores number);
2.-the UCI (Unified Chess Interface) protocol (if B2 you need to set the number of cores in "Engine Options" window of each GUI);
3.-both Wb & UCI protocols (here is Naum - you can set the number of cores in the configuration file or in the "Engine Options" window under an UCI compatible GUI).
Attention please with this B3 group !!! They are some Wb+UCI chess engines (Brutus , for example) which generate and use only the default .ini file when is used like UCI engine (in this situation you need to set the number of cores only in "Engine Options" window).

Have a nice day !

Open
Engine
Engine 1.
Configuration:

Put the cores you want is saved immediately, and Arena would remember if it not changes.
