Given that the mate-in-14 lines have Ke2 as black's first reply instead of Kd4, it would be interesting to know how Baron finds a mate in 12 after Ra3+ Ke2. (If it does not, the reported mate in 13 is incorrect.)

I can confirm that the position after Ra3 Kd4 is mate in 12. But my engine only finds mate in 14 in the starting position.
Here is:

FEN: 2r5/8/p3p3/4Pkp1/P7/r3R3/4K2B/8 b - - 2 61

(...)
17 00:10 58.897.552 2.560.763 +M12 c8c2 e2d1 a3e3 d1c2 e3e2 c2c3 e2h2 a4a5 f5e5 c3d3 g5g4 d3e3 h2h3 e3f2 e5f4 f2e2 g4g3 e2d1 h3h2 d1e1 h2f2 e1d1 g3g2 d1e1 g2g1q
This line has 13 moves by white, so +M13 seems more appropriate? (Which would mean +M14 for the initial position.)

Now that I'm counting anyway, the first line has 14 moves by white.

Found a bug in the Baron. Following the PV, it announces Mate in 1 when it's in 2. That explain all.

OK, some more work for Richard to fix it... ;)

Louis
what split depth have you found to be best with your 8 threads?
thanks

I settled on 8 as the default after some rather informal testing of Critter-1.4. I haven't done any testing with Critter-1.6a, and am still using 8. When I tested Stockfish long ago, I think I found 6 or 7 seemed best for that engine. Since you have 12 threads, perhaps 9 or 10 would be better for you? Not sure. What are you using when you run 12 threads?

Seems to be correct.

thanks for the info.
Critter wont heat up my 12 threads, pc at 52c when oc to 4.5, runs about 85% in task manager.
Rybka and Houdini with my computer room temp at 74F, runs at steady 100% in task manager and pc runs 60c, I control pc temp with room temp thermostat, when running 4.5gigx12. this is with cpu air coolers not water.
be back in a minute with split depth results

reboot between each test.
first pc is 6 threads single socket
second pc is 12 threads two sockets.
both using same 4096 hash
notice scaling
Critter is not optimized for 12 threads.
even with min split depth at 12, the pc still wont heat up and task manager is not steady and is not near 100%.
