The problem Is not the software.. Its the users fault, with their low moral, low honor and low respect for the other people.

I realize that. What I'm asking is what software can I utilize to detect those who cheat? I believe some sites can track them with anti-cheating software. I'd like to employ such software to catch these pricks!

ICC uses speedtrap account, probably move screening. Jon Jacobs said of this method, "It takes a thief to catch a thief."

Some chess servers can tell if you are switching to another application whilst playing against someone. They then will either ban you from the site or abort the game and then award the win to the other player. However why it should bother someone that they are not actually playing against another human is an interesting question. Seems to me that this is more about pride and ego than about chess.

Is there software that I can install on my PC to catch them myself?

No, unless you are a hacker and could get access to your opponent computer activity.

Well... that sucks. I think I've got a challenge for all chess engine programmers here. Write software to identify chess engines, IE moves timing etc. Your own programs would be easiest, tougher for disimliar engines.

You created the ability to cheat inadvertantly now take it from the unethical and believe me there are plenty of them.

What sites, and what time controls do you play? I would think that as you get higher up in the ratings then you will come across more cheaters.I don't notice any cheating on ICC or FICS, but then again I am playing in the 1400-1800 range of players on those sites at 5 min blitz controls.
Getting back to the Apple App, I think that it will be too cumbersome for a cheater to use in say a 5 min game, your only worry would be for those longer time controls.
The top sites offer free membership for authenticated GM and IM, but I am amazed at the number of non titled players giving GMs a beating. But when an international invite tournament for all the top players to compete face to face over the board then the hierachy is re established.Glad I am not in the GM/IM rating range.
