Evan vs Fidelity Elite A/S Challenger Budapest

Post by CRoberson »

My son was getting a little cocky about his chess skill, so I taunted him with "You can't even beat my prettiest computer on it's lowest level". He took the bait and played the Fidelity Elite A/S Challenger Budapest on level A1 (5 sec per move) with pondering off.

I thought I was going to eat crow for a while. He is winning the middlegame, but misses winning tactics at moves 17 and 22. The game took about 45 minutes, so he had a time advantage.

Thanks Steve B! We love this machine. Is there something this good looking to connect to my PC's? The Citrine works and is nice, but it doesn't look as good as the Budapest. Also, I don't think the DGT boards look as good as the Budapest.

I have never heard that the Fidelity Elite A/S Challenger Budapest could be connected to a PC.

Hi Charles
glad to see your getting good use from the computer
you son played well ...better then i would have that's for certain..by move 17 i am usually toast

you know EAS 's seem to be a very desirable computer as of late with 3 of them selling on Ebay for:
between $500-2700!!

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ws/eBayISAPI. ... 0863467227

http://www.ebay.com/itm/FIDELITY-ELITE- ... 1008170167

http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dl ... 0666346565

and there is one up now for auction..already at $565

http://www.ebay.com/itm/261016719114

aside from the Citrine and DGT ..there are the Phoenix computers ...as you well know..,having written a special port of Telepath for them ..aside from those i cant think of any others that makes a useful connection to a PC
but then again..connecting to a PC is not my main area of interest

Oldies Rule Regards

You can look for a Renaissance:

It can't. I want something that looks like it that can.

That gives me an idea. Well, that and a PM that Bryan Whitby sent me this morning.

What if I took a Fidelity Elite A/S Challenger that has died but the reed switches still work and added new electronics as in Bryan's work. That would do it.

Thanks for the idea. I've looked at them and they don't do it for me. I want a more elegant design for the board. The Renaissance and the DGT are just squares with nothing but 90 degree angles. I want curves. The Budapest has a more elegant look so something in that direction, but there isn't anything.
