I haven't tried it with my development version, but I doubt it gets it, and it is probably not that far from release, maybe a couple of months. Its one of those positions that sadly the programmer is still better at than the program.

I am playing with null move a little right now in fact, but experience indicates I am unlikely to get away with changing it dramatically without weakening the engine.

I don't believe that Null Move will weakening your engine since the best engines Houdini and Critter are benefitting from using it
I use null move :). And I use whatever version works best for me (not sure how it differs from Houdini and Critter, but assumably it does). If I found a solution that worked better, I would happily use it. My guess is, if someone sent me the source for Houdini and Critter, and I tried their exact version of null move, it would actually make my engine worse (and vice-versa). Chess programming is funny that way.

Don't feel bad, even one of the oldest program around Crafty can not solve this puzzle

I would say the best players like Kasparov, Anand, Carlsen, Aronian and Gelfand and Kramnik would find it in less than a second. I'm sure the powerful Lukas Cimiotti cluster can see it as well, in less than a second.

I couldn't see it but then again I'm am a pretty crappy chess player.

In order for engines to see it, Null Move pruning heuristic has to be implemented which was first proposed by Donninger in 1993; but humans have been using this in their computer (Internal Brain) for many years as an elimination process

Well DeepRybka 4.1 still doesn't get it at depth 35...

Deep Rybka 4.1 is a very inferior engine compared to what Vas is working with right now.

Let your system run for 2 hours and I am pretty sure that Lukas Cimiotti Clusters can not match the amount of search that your system get in in 2 hours in 5 seconds or even 30 seconds

Yes but computers are always getting better and faster so they can check up many more promising positions on the board and can see farther and farther ahead.

Some day the chess community may have access to an exascale computer system like the Square Kilometer Array (SKA) that is under development.

Lets get back into the present if Komodo and many other top programs can not find the correct move after searching up to depth 34 which on my slow computer is equivalent to letting it run for over 1 hour and thirty minutes then in an actual game it will never find it within reasonable time, but I provide an old version of Houdini 3 minutes which is reasonable and it found the correct move after 20 seconds

Very nice position!

Stockfish currently can't find it within reasonable time, but, with this patch: https://github.com/glinscott/Stockfish/ ... inned_null, here is how it looks. The change was pretty minor. Adding a bonus when a friendly piece is blocking check to the enemy king, and not allowing null move pruning for the enemy in that situation. Whether it ends up increasing ELO or not is a separate question :).
