I have a Galaxy S5 and I just got a Note 3 for my daughter. Both phones are hitting over 700,000 nps after two minutes. I assume the discrepancy between this and the list on this page is an upgraded Droidfish? I can't believe that the Note 3 is faster since its S800 chip is slightly slower than the S801 in the Galaxy S5. The S5 is slightly faster up to the first minute but then the Note 3 passes it slightly.

I read the OP and I am trying to figure out the exact perimeters for this test. I see that it is run for two minutes. Is pondering on? Do I leave threads on automatic or 4? What Hash table do I assign? Thanks.

Don't worry too much about hash. 64, 126, 256, 512MB will all give comparable results. You should see a noticeable difference below 64 and beyond 512. Regarding the cores, if you set auto, Droidfish will follow the system and will take 4. Set it to 4 yourself and repeat the test to confirm the result is the same. Core setting becomes tricky on 4+4 cpus like Exynos but Snap 80x is simple.
We've been discovering the Snapdragon bottleneck related to low L1 cache for a while. It seems you've witnessed the same. 16K L1 cache prevents Snapdragon from going beyond 700K.
To surprise you more, even a Note4 with Snapdragon 805 @ 2.67ghz gets stuck at 699K. I did the test myself in a store.

The exynos note Mobiles are faster. Qualcomm Sucks for chess.

Some devices have a very good benchmark for the initial stages of the test (that is the first few minutes) but when left on positions for over 60 minutes or even longer periods of time like a few hours then the n/s drop quite considerably and can drop by a factor of 10. My main question is what causes this big drop off and do desktops computers suffer the same fate.

Heat. Cpu throttling... If you do the same in a refrigerator the nodes will remain high. :-)
Intel Z3745 and probably all BayTrail series are an exception. Mine resisted very well against. I had it running hours at 1,86Ghz and no throttle with Stockfish and Komodo, up to 6 billion nodes.

Lenovo vibe x2 IS very high, isn't it ? It costs only 256 euro!
A pity that it's display is only 5". I would like to have it 5.5 or 6 with the same power.

For what it's worth, I've benchmarked Stockfish 6 running at roughly 325Knps on four cores on the new Raspberry Pi 2.
So the new RasPi is 6 times faster than the first one, but still 6 times slower than an iPad Air 2, despite the iPad only has 3 cores...

hi. i got the new xperia e4 (120euro) excelent 4-core phone for that price
in droidfish i got 485 Kn/sec.
