Poll about forum using habits and possible sw update

Post by Kempelen »

Hello,
We are surveying forum habits in order to analyze a possible software forum update. Please, tell us how do you use the forum.
Thanks

Sorry, I asked in the "Forum Help and Suggestions" some time ago for a software update because the last version offers interesting features and mods, and were emailing with Sam Hull about the topic. I offered myself to create the poll because thread-view is supposed to be the main drawback for updating to last forum sw version.
Anyway this does not neccesary mean any update, is only a survey. the final decission should be by administrators

I always use the flat view and the thread view is so annoying (at least for me) that I still don't know why it's the default view.

I wonder what features the upgrade offers to make the change worthwhile.
Installed version is from 2005 according to foot notes, so It has rain a lot from them. The main reason I was looking into an update was for porpouse the Tapatalk plugin install. Of course the update to phpbb 3.0 does not mean the plugin install would be approved, but for me it was the first step. Others porpuosed an update in the past, maybe with different goals in mind.

This is a complete list of features: http://www.phpbb.com/about/features/?from=submenu

Most of them already exists, but sure some are new. I suppose plugins (mods) and notifications are the main growed area.

Also is notable that most modifications requieres >= phpbb 3.0 : http://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/modif ... om=submenu
( a few of them could be interesting )

I would wish for a forum software update for the "ignore" feature (automatic blanking of posts from users one wishes to ignore) so I am ABSOLUTELY 100% in support of it.

Regarding Tapatalk, I've heard it said that using a web browser explicitly designed for mobile phones (e.g. Opera Mini) removes the need for it on most forums.

I write to push this thread to the top of the forum. There is a risk that the thread "dissapears" without some user notice it.

Please, could an admin put a sticky to this thread/poll, at least during the poll duration?

Thanks.

IMHO it's better to occasionally push the thread (if necesary). I guess the sticky entries usually are unintentionally filtered as "stuff I don't need to read because it's just about the rules of the forum" or something similar.
Besides, info usually calls more our attention if it "moves" than if it's static.
