Is anyone out here aware of where I can get this kind of information? Perhaps somebody out here already has it! I would like to get a list of rated chess players (IM and GM preferably) and whether they are left handed or right handed. Can someone out here help me out?
Thanks,
Les

and what about both-hands people?
I use both to anything with almost equal proficiency. Maybe because of that I am a so lousy chess player

Hi!
Just tried handedness AND chess with Google, seem good key words to look for.

was one of the first results, this article even made it to PubMed citations btw.
Good luck for your research

So next improvement in chess programming should be not right handed engines!?

It has little bearing on how well left-handed or ambidextrous people play chess. The study didn't find anything in that part of the survey that determines chess ability Most top GMs are right-handed. List world champions who were left-handed or ambidextrous.towforce wrote:Here's the answer then:

It's worse than that even: given the stated hypothesis about right-brained people having more natural chess brains, the study says NOTHING WHATSOEVER about the level of chess creativity that the left handed people have!Terry McCracken wrote:It has little bearing on how well left-handed or ambidextrous people play chess.
It would also be nice to know if, as in other fields, creative types first come up with the ideas - but it's the plodders who go on to perfect them, and whether this correlates with handedness.
There's clearly an opportunity here for somebody to do a better study.

The ambidextrous seem to have the increased memory, but reduced creativity and problem solving ability, of the right handed:fern wrote:and what about both-hands people? I use both to anything with almost equal proficiency. Maybe because of that I am a so lousy chess player...
