Stockfish 2.2 JA Time management.

Post by Master Om »

Stockfish 2.2 JA time management has some problems. It is loosing in time most of the time. Don't know know if others are facing it. This is the first time I am facing in stockfish. Any Ideas ?

I'm having no problems. Could you post an example PGN file if possible?

On my old Intel Quad (no SSE support, Vista 64bit) Stockfish 2.2 JA 64bit looses 1/3 of all games on time under LittleBlitzerGUI with 60 seconds + 500ms Fischer Bonus. Version 2.1.1 doesnt...
Testing for my NEBB-Rankinglists is impossible...

Yea, I have the answer. If you would quit this 2min.+1sec. and 5min.+3sec., etc.- meaning stay away from Fischer time controls- you would be fine and it would not lose a game on time. But you like everyone else, thinks that is the way to go. Figure out what would be comparable to your time, either 40/2 , 40/3, 40/4 repeating- whatever. And stay away from silly fischer time controls. Problem solved. Nothing wrong with Stockfish- many engines- strong ones- don't understand the type of controls you try to use.

I am assuming w/o being told that fischer controls are what you are using. And I don't care if 1000 others are and not having a problem. If I am wrong- my apologies. If I am right, shed them and use sensible controls.

I reported this bug to Jim Ablett after few minutes from the release (it is reported in the original thread), he's aware of it, but i would like that someone else could tell the stockfish team about this.

I simply found that 2.2 almost always loses on time in ultra fast games because when it has less than 10 seconds without increment it becomes very slow. Obviously i am talking about sudden death games (without increment).

Thank you
