ChessBase for Android is not a chess program. It's a chess database.Ponti wrote:My vote: Chessbase for Android.
BTW: Interesting to see that you are Windows/Mac/Linux User.

Hi Aloisio,
an all in one statement
freeware I had most fun:
Stockfish, Spark, Critter and AnMon
commercial engines I had most fun:
Chiron, Junior, Hiarcs
Other things I buyed and had most fun:
ChessBase 10 / 11 (commercial), Shredder-Classic 4 GUI
Other things freeware I had most fun:
- PGN / EPD tool collection by Norm Pollock
- Gaviota-Bases
Work I had the most respect by programmers:
Don Dailey / Larry Kaufmann (Komodo), very interesting, not the style I like (I am a fan of aggressive computer chess) but a very very interesting developement. Must have for analyzes.
Norman Schmidt and his effort and work for the community.
And so many interesting Freeware engines I had fun, many of the engines are still running in my Oldie-Mix tourney.
Other things I like:
- Sedat Canbaz and his great work he do for us.
- CEGT, CCRL ratings
Biggest disappointment:
- Robert Houdart with own information about Houdini, can't be right.
- Second open letter by many of good known programmers for a lot of reasons.
- Vas Raijlich don't gave important information!
Unfortunately, I wish me more time for looking in all the interesting works by users for the community, but I don't have it. After my own work with SWCR I am sure I have more time for it.
Best

Funny you should mention it as I just got it myself, first software I actually bought for the Android platform, and have been using it on both my phone (low 480 x 320 graphics) and hacked Nook Color (1024 x 600). I like that the graphics scaled so well. The icons are proportionately large on the tablet, and maintain a high-res look.Ponti wrote:My vote: Chessbase for Android.
That said, my vote for best software of 2011 would go to Fritz 13 for the Let's Check functionality.

My best buy of 2011 is ChessGUI 0.238 !
It cost me perhaps more than 1000 bucks of work, but I use it intensively.
Matthias.

My engine was quite strong till I added knowledge to it.

Re: Chiron - Donum Ex Deus !
Hi CCC members !
My vote (and money) goes to Chiron of Maestro Ubaldo Andrea Farina !
All (ex) privates are a big temptation for me - here are a lot of original ideas. If a chess engine plays the chess I love ( Arasan , Chiron , Cheng , Diep , The King........................) I'm not interested in its ELO !
Diep , Rookie , The Baron.......................................I wait for ! The eternity works for me !
Regards,
SilvianR

Re: Chiron - Donum Ex Deus !
As far as I know current version will not be available until Richard Pijl decides to write 4.X version. Current one, 3.28a, is that one which partecipated at WCCC. Very interesting, a bit complicated to tune.Sylwy wrote: ............................. The Baron.......................................I wait for ! The eternity works for me !

Richard is working on 3.29, with some changes with hashtables and book/middlegame learning system. So, 4.0 isn't scheduled as imminent... Sorry.
My two favorite programs... ChessGUI and... The Baron!
