I bought a Samsung Galaxy tablet for my wife  as a gift for the upcoming yearly Sinterklaas celebration in Holland.

I'd start with Aart Bik's Chess for Android and get a whole load of engines like Komodo and DroidFish.
I just saw that ARM released a freeish C/C++/JavaNative Code toolkit for Android development. Makes it itch in the fingers :)

I have a similar machine, Android Asus Transformer. I think she is going to really like it. You should get one too and port Rebel :-)
