To the chess community:
I figured out there were over 200,000 chess tactics problems thru "Wikipedia" and "Chess Tactics" on a search engine.
What do people use to sharpen their learning on chess?
1. Chess Books
2. Software like a chess engine
3. Websites
Do any of you use for chess tactics websites...?
1 Chess Tempo
2 Idea Chess
3 Chess Tactics Server
4 Other
I have done over 10,000 problems in the last 5 years or so.

Chess Anthology 3 on CD is good training, i personaly don't like the Chess Tactics servers since they reward fast answers more than the most correct, e.g you get higher rating if you get 4/5 correct with only 2 seconds thinking time each position, but lower rating if you get 5/5 but take 10 seconds for each position.

At least Idea Chess does not work in this manner. In fact thye do not have a timer to clock you.Cubeman wrote:... i personaly don't like the Chess Tactics servers since they reward fast answers more than the most correct, e.g you get higher rating if you get 4/5 correct with only 2 seconds thinking time each position, but lower rating if you get 5/5 but take 10 seconds for each position.

AFAIK of the 3 chess tactics servers:
CT is both timed and untimed
IC is untimed only (like the previous post said)
CTS is timed only (like the 2nd most previous post said)
Each one are different like buying an automobile.

Chess Tempo can be both timed and without a timer as someone else in this thread stated. And I don't think the timer has any bearing on the rating unless you are practicing in blitz mode.Cubeman wrote:Chess Anthology 3 on CD is good training, i personaly don't like the Chess Tactics servers since they reward fast answers more than the most correct, e.g you get higher rating if you get 4/5 correct with only 2 seconds thinking time each position, but lower rating if you get 5/5 but take 10 seconds for each position.
I don't care about a tactics rating anyway. I just look at percentage correct. Plus the timer on Chess tempo helps me to see if I am indeed taking some time to really look at the problem instead of just playing by rote.
