will someone explain to me why Dan Corbit

Post by kgburcham »

I am not sure If I am spelling Dan Corbits name correctly.
Will someone explain to me why Dan does not post here. Dan was always passionate with chess, test positions, databases, disscussions, etc..
I remember his last posts, he left aggravated. Not sure why.
Dann was good with test positions and had upgraded his pc recently.
I am sure he left for what I would consider minor reasons.
I felt it was a real loss losing him, he was a regular here with posts I always read.
Dan if you read this, you have gotten your revenge by disappearing for so long. Now start posting again and just tell everyone you went through a period of mourning because your pet Ferret passed away.

It would be good to have it confirmed by Dann himself, but from memory he wasn't all that happy with the way that the whole Rybka incident played out. If you search his last lot of posts, that might give a clue as to how he was feeling and perhaps why he no longer posts here. (Search - Dann Corbit - Computer Chess Club general topics subforum - posts)
Then again, he might just be going through a very busy period in his life and doesn't have the time to post here.

As a lay I think that he left with all his knowledge in mind about the sources of chess programs. Dann knows what is going on and I think that he felt that he shouldnt support the campaign here against Vas.His last debate with Bob was mainly Bob showing no respect for Dann. My impression as a lay.mI have great respect for Dann who also closed his internet page where many people have found material to progress. I feel that Dann saw a wrong being done against Vas.

Longer time ago he wrote here something like, if we condemn all adoptions of typical knowledge then no engine could survive. And Dann knew a lot about code because often he was asked as an expert.

I repeat the way Bob waved off his arguments was at least impolite. Against Ballicora Bob did it too but Miguel resisted him and told him to be polite. And Bob changed his tone.

I hope Dann reads this and does something behind the scene. I am almost sure that he's not totally away.

well Graham if he is having a rough time, I hope it gets better and he is able to post again.
There are many that did not like how blood was shed on both sides in the Rybka battle, but they are still here and post.

Rolf I think Dan should have felt a violation by Vas early, same as Robert and many others knew when Rybka started dominating in short time. If you want to refer to the last of Dans conversations, it would seem Robert was correct in his suspicions of Rybka code.

These were the last threads that Dann posted in back on July 1st. That's quite a while ago.

It is true. The whole thing was a sad effort by jealous and petty people. And then they tried to hijack Cock and his group. And here is where they found out lots of people don't think much of them. The fact that anyone does boggles the mind.

May be that the problem is not only related to this forum.

Ron in:

http://computer-chess.org/forum/index.p ... ad&id=1677

says that Dann's webpage has been down, up to now, for 4 months.
