A new UCI engine ???

Post by Sylwy »

Hi all !

Today I have found on a Polish site a new engine : QN
It's an UCI engine ( after Arena GUI autodetect ).

Here is a sample from a game against Ruffian1.0.5:

Image

Seems to be a 2.400-2500 ELO engine !
The problem is : clone or not ?!? . I wait for a programmer verdict !

Here is the link to this engine:

If it's an original engine - will be nice a wonderful logo !
Thank you !

Regards,

what's even funnier, "author" of QN submitted his progrm to Leo Dijksmann, but avoided participation in Open Polich Computer Chess Championship, where he'd meet authors of original engines face to face.

Why would you even think that it might be? Not all new engines are clones.

Yes, it's not nice for someone who releases a new engine to be "guilty until proven innocent". The assumption that a new engine must be weak is also very flawed, just because it's newly released doesn't mean it is recently developed...

How did you come up with the ELO estimate for the engine ?

I don't think this 'QN' can be QueeNy (although I posted that as QN.exe), because QueeNy is WinBoard, not UCI... QueeNy is also no good as a general Chess engine; it was exclusively made for playing the Charge-of-the-Light-Brigade (sub-)variant. So it could not have the rating you quote.
