Crafty and Junior both forfeit based on the disconnection rule.
I was kicked out of Chapters because I moved all the Bibles to the fiction section.

Isn't there a mistake in round 3? Should the game Arasan-DJunior 1-0 not read 0-1 since the final position is a clear win for Black.

A pity if this should be the case

Junior did lose on disconnection - many participants had problems but djunior more than most. The game was later resumed and djunior won it handily - but it was past the number of allowed disconnections so didn't count. Unfortunately djunior later withdrew from the tourney.

It was the case. Our game was also dead won. We ran into an xboard / FICS problem that was causing all sorts of hangs during the tournament. Most eventually reverted back to xboard version 4.2.6 or 4.2.7 to solve the problem on day 2. We played 4 games on day 1 and 3 of those had two hangs/disconnects, and one in round 3 had 3 which produced a forfeit by rule...

First game I have lost on a disconnect rule since we got rid of dial-up connections...

Unfortunately, 4.2.7 did not solve the problem here.
At the end, in the first blitz game, I used icsdroneng, and I also had one freezing event. I did not use it extensively enough (I reverted to xboard), but every single interface that I tested gave me problems = xboard, 4.2.7, 4.4.3, 4.4.4, another intermediate version released in october, and icsdroneng. All those with of without timeseal, and with or without an engine because I was chatting from a different account, which occasionally froze.

HGM runs a custom FICS. I wonder if the symtoms would present in that venue also.

Among all the things I did, I tried that on Saturday (I think) and there was no problem there. But I played only a limited number of games against TRACE. I did not see a problem for ~20 minutes trying to see if I can force the issue (that would have certainly helped hgm).

I have no clue what the problem could be.

I switched to 4.2.7 and was able to use it for a few games in the blitz tourney (connecting from the Amazon site in Virginia), but still with a lot of connection problems. So I went back to running my local machine (West Coast). I don't think it's the server because the local machine stayed on. And I was running the exact same binaries of xboard and my engine on both machines. It is a bit of a mystery. Just to add to things, the remote machine seemed to be ok on ICC - it played a few blitz games and stayed on, but I didn't try it for a long time.

I did notice that when it did stop responding, FICS seemed to think it was still on (I don't use timeseal). Eventually xboard would put up a connection failure dialog but it seemed to take a long time. That's maybe what you'd see with a really laggy connection but it was truly not communicating - not just slow. I didn't ever see it recover out of this state w/o a restart.
