That's fine Chris. It's our hobby, so we'll continue to enjoy our testing regardless. Our lists are there for those who're interested. If you're not interested, don't bother looking.Cubeman wrote:Don't worry about CCRL/CEGT not testing the strongest engines.Soon these lists will be history. The only people interested in them will be the small group that actually does the testing. All I can say is what a waste of computer time and electricity these guys are wasting.Oh and did I mention that Houdini is currently FREE so you don't even have to buy it.
IPON and other great lists will surpass these lists that have had their time.

Graham, my NewZealandish-speakin' buddy, i second the opinion of my dear namemate: Tear down those walls, stop the dishonesty of current CCRL-testing and bring objective fair tests to the public... you will receive the same honour like Gorbatschov nowadays! Graham, be ready to make history!

Sorry to disappoint you, but that's extremely unlikely.SchachProfi wrote:Haha, i like Burns indeed..., he and Moe being the soul of the Simpsons.

There are other rating lists that include it though, so you could always take a look at those.
Cheers,
Graham.

Sure. But I think the time has come to reconsider decisions and cast off vanity. It's obvious that there are some engines with "questionable legal status" and it's just unfair to favor one or another.Dann Corbit wrote:IMO, anyone creating any rating list is free to test any engines that they choose to test and not test any engines that they choose not to test.

You may also agree that if someone is guilty of printing false money another one should be allowed to kidnap his neighbours kids?Alexander Schmidt wrote:... It's obvious that there are some engines with "questionable legal status" and it's just unfair to favor one or another.

Hello Volker,
I understand the use of irony but in your example both parties are guilty of crimes.
Counterfeiting and Kidnapping.
Both are wrong, legally so.
I think in this case the issue is that why is one engine which is seen as questionable by some is allowed a status which is denied another?
It isn't a comparison between two crimes and whether one was better than another but a difference in treatment between two kidnappers, to use your example.
The argument that these bodies can test whatever they wish is of course a perfectly valid one and I for one agree that a person should do as he/she thinks fit with his/her resources in their hobbies.
The usefulness of such a list becomes increasingly open to question from a strictly informational point of view but really, I have not used any list in years to make any sort of purchasing or usage decision. I fail to see the big deal in them but there is this fascination with a list I guess...
Later.

"The usefulness of a list is easily measured by the number of visitors during a given period. No need to take into account anything else."
I don't agree with that statement how can you measure the usefulness by the number of visitors? By that logic you can print crap and have some keywords like sex, porn, etc and say that your list is useful.
Why not state that you are free to test anything you like but choose to omit some engines due to personal choice.
The "Complete" list is also misleading as someone who knows no better would think that it covers all the engines there are.
Lucky people can use Google and type in free best chess engine and will steer clear of your bogus lists.

As I said, everybody is free to look at whatever lists they want.
All your carrying on won't change a thing. Go away and play with your bogus engine.
