I can confirm that I've never even looked at the source codes of Fruit.

Inasmuch as people claim that Fruit is the "grandfather of all modern top engines", I'm actually curious...

It seems Alexandra does not care or know that from Rybka and all
the top engines around Rybka are clones of Fruit. :-).
Of course she does not know because it is a lie.

Rybka and houdini are not clones of fruit.

It is a fact that they are clearly different from fruit in the moves that they suggest and a clone by definition produce the same moves.

I think that the question if something of them is a derivative of fruit is not relevant and simply does not interest most people.
"Does not interest most people"??????????

Now that is is the FUNNIEST thing I have ever read or the lamest use of irony..I can't make up mind.

That might be the first thing you have ever actually confirmed.

It seems to interest people on this forum.

I am not clear as to the terms of the GPL, perhaps there is someone here that could clarify the GPL for us.

But it seems clear to me that source code provided under the GPL is not completely free to use for just ANY purpose. As a chess player and a programmer, I am very interested in this issue. It is not a new issue, and it is not limited to chess engines.

But one thing seems clear to me, if Fabien and the FSF don't care to enforce their own license, THEN the GPL becomes worhtless. And that would be a sad day.

Sincerely,
Ed
Alexandra did not write to people in this forum and I guess that most chess players do not care about the question if A is a derivative of B.
They use programs for analysis of chess positions and if A suggest different moves than B then for them A is different than B and they can use both of them or prefer one of them if they think that one of them is better in most cases.

Thanks Pavel.

With a 1440 px width you should use "Medium" size. Just click the button in the logo.

Gerold,

I would very much like to see a screenshot so that I can fix it.
