Well just wanted to ask what is it that you would like to have most in a new Arena. Till now we are thinking of

1) Multidocument
2) Windows docking
3) Aggregate (did you notice this at all ?)/Engine windows together

on the other habd 3-D is again not on the agenda.

All the best for 2011

And by the way if you hear again from Russain sources the project you better don't belive Pravda ("The Truth")...

User define buttons - for example - when one using arena for engines vs engines play, you would have different setting than what you would have if you were playing against one the engines. The button would be a user define macro that would toggle multiple settings at once between your engine vs engine setting and your personal engibe playing settinmgs.

So with one click, - you could have your fav engine loaded, fav book loaded, fav time setting loaded, hide pv,and display that is conducve to human play. Toggle, the button again and you would get stand defaut engive vs engine settings. Each button click will toggle the saved settings back and forth.

Yes I can do it with Arena too. But I want to get PGN 'united output' and single tournament table like in LB 2.5

I get that by simply having both instances save the games to the same PGN file. And the cross table is made from that PGN, so it contains games from both.

In that case it does not look very much like "multiple tournaments", though. Why would you prefer it this way over having a single tournament manager run (a configurable number of) multiple games in parallel, starting a new one as soon as one of the running games finishes?

Hi,

It would be interesting, if it could manage a Swiss system.

Does it run knockout tournaments? Can't recall.

Hi Michael,

I have a request too. Can you and Arena Team make Arena server fully compatible for Ivanhoe&Houdini play, as Chessbase don't allow these engines to be used on their server ?

Thanks for all the hard work, you and Arena Team are doing.

I think alternative to Chessbase server would be nice ( of course with all engines allowed, which means even Ivanhoe, Houdini, Fire Deep Saros etc...
and not just a buggy obsolete and outdated Rybka 4 who no longer is on the top of the rating lists... )

Are these engines also banned on FICS? If not, why notmove there?

In addition, anyone can set up his own ICS, and then allow whatever engine he wants on it. The FICS code is open source, although recent Ubuntu systems have difficulty compiling it. I am still working on solving this problem, but even before that, using Ubuntu 8.04 to compile it should give you no problems. Arena is already equiped to connect to such an ICS.

First of all i have to say that i love Arena 3.0,
thanks for all your great work Martin & Michael!

1) Multidocument = having several boards at once would be nice indeed.
Besides that, a more intuitiv PlayerWhite=human/engineX and
PlayerBlack=human/engineY would be fine.

Chessvariants, 3D all that fancy stuff don't
belong into Arena in my opinion, there are
more specialized programs for that purpose.

@Slavik "2) Language bugs fix! I'm tired to see this: "
Just build your own translation , than you don't have to see them,
guess Martin & Michael can be tired of all the hard work too...
