Arena future development.../Proposals ?

Hello,

Well just wanted to ask what is it that you would like to have most in a new Arena. Till now we are thinking of

1) Multidocument
2) Windows docking
3) Aggregate (did you notice this at all ?)/Engine windows together

on the other habd 3-D is again not on the agenda.

And by the way if you hear again from Russain sources the project you better don't belive Pravda ("The Truth")...

I would *really* love to see some of the annoying CECP behaviour fixed:

1) Arena sends "new" with a "name" multiple times for some unexplained reason. If you want your engine to greet the player with a nice message when a game starts (like "Hello <name>, let's have a nice game of chess"), this yields multiple cluttered messages

2) Arena sometimes just sends "xboard" "protover 2" and then without waiting and responding to the features with accepted/rejected, immediately "new" and only AFTERWARDS responds to the features - that seems completely weird and an engine can then not initialize properly with the featureset accepted from the GUI when it gets those AFTER being already asked to init a game (and it totally breaks the suggested login sequence from the official specs).

What else? Support for engine variants!
Dark Chess would be a good start.

If you see how many people are playing Chess variants into the many sites for that(Brainking.com,Cowplay.com, Playok.com, Itsyourturn.com, Game Courier of Chessvariants.org!! etc), you will see that Arena has fallen behind on this area with its non supporting ability of Chess variants.

Is there a way to keep list of all played games open when you select to load a played game from to the game internal gamelist window?
It seems to close after game is loaded. Is there there a way to get right back to load list window with a shortcut?

Don't think this will be implemented. Till now you can only solve fairy chess problems with PopeyeUCI.

I don't think you got me quite right.
I'm not speaking about helpmates, selfhelpmates, etc.

I'm speaking about Chess variants support. Nothing to do with PopeyeUCI.

Chess variants are Atomic Chess, Suicide Chess(losing Chess), Crazyhouse Chess, Gothic Chess, Fischer Random Chess(FRC-Arena supports that), Capablanca Random Chess, Dark Chess, Progressive Chess, etc, etc, etc....

The only GUIs i know that support many of these, are Winboard and Zillions of Games mainly, as also the old ChessV project.

3.0 version is great !

1.Why not a long holyday ( because of "graba strica treaba" ) ?
2.Russain means that I think ?
3.I want on Arena 4.0 GUI an online teletext with the latest news in chess !
