Dr. Hyatt is correct. The best moderation crew is invisible. Dr. Hyatt, Dann, and Steve B if I remember correctly did a wonderful job moderating even if at the end of their term the fourms were spammed with Ipp* and company.
Personally, Dr. Hyatt is one of the best mods. He is invisible.

I don't moderate in here Mr Goodwin. Bob Hyatt was invisible in his last term as moderator here because he never did anything at all. What would you know about his non existant moderation anyway, having only been a member since January 2010? Wait a minute.....January.....that was when the elections were...no?Suji wrote:Dr. Hyatt is correct. The best moderation crew is invisible. Re: Chief Differences between CCC v OPEN
The difference between forums is the same as always: the members. You can have all the technology, fancy options, and whatnot, but in the end, a forum is defined by its members. That is why CCC has thrived and survived this long, and will continue to do so.Steve B wrote:I see two main differences..
1)CCC ..you need to register to read all Sub-Fora and to post anywhere
OPEN..you need to register to post anywhere but can read anything without registering
Conclusion ...OPEN is great for Unregistered Lurkers
2)CCC.The moderators are elected every six months by the membership
Open..Mods are appointed by the owner of the site who is also the Uber Mod
Conclusion..any hope that the general membership can have some input into their sites current and future direction
can be "checked" at the OPEN coat room door when you first walk in
please take your coat room ticket..please have a seat
thank you very much..
now ..
I ask you..
Which difference is tiny and which is huge??
Unregistered Lurkers vs Members Regards

Re: Chief Differences between CCC v OPEN
I'm going to spend my time on the board that works best for my interests, the one that suits me. Whether that board has 3 elected moderators, or a single non-elected moderator makes no nevermind to me, it's the result that matters. I don't think that elected vs unelected moderators defines the outcome - it can go bad either way. Things have become pretty nutty here, so case in point. I'll vote with my feet - right on over to the board that allows free and open discussion - which is currently happening over at OpenChess. I'll still pop in here, hoping things improve, just won't be my first choice for the time being.

So perhaps you think that you are showing me how misguided my preferences are? Thanks, but I'm quite capable of evaluating the merits of these places all by my little ol' self. I'm not here to make you happy or live up to your expectations. I'm here (or there) to read and participate in ways that suit me. You don't have to agree with me. I really don't have an agenda outside of that.

Conkie, you seem preoccupied with the existence of openchess.
You even seem threatened by it. All these post links below are a bit obsessive wouldn't you say? Why concern yourself with openchess? Do you monitor the rybka forum and hiarcs forum also for posts that irritate you?
Ease up. Take a chill pill. Go out to Stonehenge and breath the fresh air. Good luck.

Re: Chief Differences between CCC v OPEN
At least offer factual statements. The "never did anything at all" is a _far_ cry from what went on. I seemed to have created the biggest moderator disturbance, in fact, when I realized that it was time to get off the ip* is a clone bandwagon since it was obvious no supporting data was forthcoming. If I could buy you for what I think you are worth, and sell you for what you think you are worth, I'd be a multi-millionaire...Christopher Conkie wrote:I don't moderate in here Mr Goodwin. On the contrary. If you like that kind of stuff there is plenty more there like that. The wheels are kinda falling off although. We sat here wondering why and then it dawned on us. If you have a trolls only forum there is no target. They need fresh blood else they cant survive.lmader wrote:So perhaps you think that you are showing me how misguided my preferences are? You might just be the thing that reinvigorates them. We dare you to go and post some chess in there. Evangelise......
