Hiarcs 13.1 MP UCI

Post by Kurt Utzinger »

Hello chessfriends
I have always liked Hiarcs but version 12 does not seem much stronger than version 11.2 so I am wondering about playing strength of Hiarcs 13.1 at longer time controls since I use my engines merely in the analysis mode. Any experience about this question?
Kind regards
Kurt

Hi Kurt,

Hiarcs 13.1 appears to be about 60-80 ELO stronger from results that I've seen.

Cheers,
Graham.

Hi Kurt,

I like Hiarcs also; I can give you the current ratings I have for them, but bear in mind these are _my_ ratings and are based on 30 minutes/each/game in tournaments with a variety of opponents.
Hiarcs 11: 2768
Hiarcs 11.1: 2817
Hiarcs 11.2: 2809
Hiarcs 12: 2938
Hiarcs PB: 2860
Hiarcs 13.1: 2897

These ratings do fluctuate from tournament to tournament of course. The biggest point for now is that Hiarcs 13.1 has only played in one of my tournaments so far and I do expect its rating to go up with more tournaments under its belt. Note also Hiarcs 12.1 has not yet played in one of my tournaments.

Best Regards,
David S.

Hi David
Many thanks for your information. What about time control of your tournaments?
Best regards

The time control is 30 minutes for each engine per game. SSDF uses a longer time control, but they have engine matches of something like 50 game matches against one engine, where I am having an engine play against seven opponents in a 2RR. Before I am anywhere near happy with a rating (Hiarcs 13.1 for example), I have it play in at least 3 tournaments which means two games against (usually) 21 different opponents. Then I have something of a baseline for my purposes. For instance right now Protector 1.3.5 is playing in its first tournament against Critter 0.7 (playing in its 3rd tournament and in first place so far) (2823), Zappa Mexico II (2787), Cyclone Extreme 2770), Hiarcs 11 (2768), Fritz 9 (2718), Junior 10.1 (2715), and Twisted Logic 2010 (2711) to obtain an initial rating. I suspect Hiarcs 13.1 will have a significant rating increase with the next two tournaments it plays in similar to Naum 4 which had a dismal first tournament beginning with a rating in the 2300's (I think) and then became a monster having a current rating of 2910 on my list, while a couple of engines now have ratings that are surreal: Naum 4.2 (3141 a 130 point increase over Naum 4 !!?? - but initial rating), Fire 1.2 (3094), Rybka 3 (3194 - 1st rating).

Best Regards,
David S.
