In reviewing the open dates for this and the participation over the last 3 years, the weekend of July 17th and 18th looks good.

Are there any other tournaments for that weekend that I've missed?

If enough people from the Australian time zones sign up, I'll start the tournament at 8 am EST. Otherwise, we'll stick to 9 am EST. Depending on the number of participants, we will have between 11 and 14 rounds at G/25 +4. Assuming enough from the other end of the world sign up, we would have only 4 rounds on Sunday, thus the tournament would be over by noon EST on Sunday.

I have received communications that some authors are leaving computer chess due to the ippolito affair and its derivatives.

I made a statement last January on ippo and its following entering ACCA events. It is posted here:

Since then, the view is more toward disallowing ippo and derivatives. Here in the US, if you are accused of a crime you are summoned to court for a trial. If you don't show, you go to jail for not showing and then escorted to trial. During the trial if you refuse to defend yourself, you are very likely to be judged guilty.

Ippo has been accused to improper/illegal reverse engineering. Yes, some forms of reverse engineering are illegal. However, the authors or copiers have refused to defend their code. Thus, the ACCA will not allow any such entrants based on that.

The concept of "innocent until proven guilty" doesn't mean you can avoid trial. It doesn't mean that you don't go to jail until proven guilty. If the crime is serious enough, you can be jailed until the trial is over.

So, avoiding defense of their code will not gain them admission into ACCA events. The same has been that way for many computer chess events from different organizations for decades.

Is it decided if it is going to be on ICC or FICS? Just to know if I renew my membership (which expired already).
