This is one of those "locked pawn" positions that are notorious for giving engines a hard time. This was based on a game between Bent Larsen (white) and Eugenio Torre (black) after black's 45th move. The only thing I added was a black pawn on c7 so that the position would have only one solution, otherwise the boring and mundane 1.Ng3 (which is the inferior preferred move of most engines) would also win after black's 45th move in the Larsen vs Torre game.

This one probably will not be solved by most engines, so you might not want to let your engine think too long on it, instead (presumably after you give up  ) just manually make the moves while your engine is analysing and watch the eval go up. The main line 1.Rxg4 hxg4 2.Ke3

It's terrible that comps still have trouble with these type of positions, the sac should be one of the first moves considered.

It's a bad capture in a position with equal material balance and creates a passed pawn for opponent, so there is nothing "good" in this move.

I guess I tend to agree with Terry. The capture creates a worthless passed pawn for the opponent, but a potentially valuable one for the player making the move. It would be nice if engines had a better "understanding" of such positions.

But Stockfish did find the win (although it took 16 billion nodes). :D
