Junior 2010 : The new Tal ?

Post by Robert Flesher »

Here is a game Junior 2010 one core against Rybka 3.0 on 4 cores. I am always amazed at the complications Junior can create. Move # 23. g4 !!

yes, its offered as bobby jr by someone else. i think that's the only way to get it right now. it's got it's own GUI etc with various personalities and i believe you can get a good price if you join their little chess club. i haven't bought it yet but am considering it (the wait for rybka 4 is killing me) -- i think you'd like it fernando, it sacrifices some strength but supposedly does favor activity, king attack, etc. and i'm sure it could still wipe the floor with any human any day.

"it sacrifices some strength"

I am not sure I can agree with this statement. Junior 2010 is far stronger than Deep Junior 10.1. On my Core I7 even when Deep Junior 10.1 is using 8 threads, Junior 2010 wins ! It appears to be approx 75-100 elo stronger after about 500 games. Now you can imagine the difference if it was Deep Junior 2010. This is the strongest Junior I have used.

well, i meant compared to other engines such as shredder, rybka, fritz etc. junior seems a bit more interested in speculative chess etc than pure elo.

any engine that can beat rybka 3 on 4 cores using 1 core is clearly an engine rybka could learn something from. i have not looked at the game yet but the g4 move speaks to rybka's incomplete understanding of king safety. it is also quite a tal like move, even a patzer such as myself who cares not a whit about wins and losses would be hesitant to weaken my king like that in such a position. however it has been noted that pawn storms our often a key to rare success against these engines. in my one victory against a machine at full strength i succeeded in similar fashion.

Amazing game, worth playing over without engine help. Juniors attack was perfect!

I love playing against and analyzing with Deep Junior 2010!

The gui is nothing fancy but the personalities and levels are pretty good for training!
