Deuterium

Post by swami »

The engine seems to be starting again everytime the new epd is being supplied.

Other engines just go to the next problem without restarting themselves.

Was wondering if this is a bug or a feature? could it be turned off?

Anyway, It's yet another stronger engine update available here:

Best,
Yes, Harun. The engine seems to have a decent understanding of Re-Capturing, Open files/Diagonals.

However, It needs improvement on "Square Vacancy" which by the way is the most important strategic theme.

Oh. nooo! You should have kept this as secret, once
we have conducted few hundreds of test games.

Now, all its opponents know this feature.
I see it as a great disadvantage for Deuterium. :(

Whoops it looks like the test was run at 4 seconds each move. I forgot to change the time control since yesterday. I will start the Deuterium test again at 10 seconds each move.

Thanks for the tips. I will try to look into the peculiarities of these test positions. It is always good to develop an engine's search and evaluation while also thinking on these test sets.

Your test shows 10 s per position:

Arena GUI
10 seconds per position
700 positions
Core2Quad 32 bits, Q6600, 2 GB RAM, 2.4GHZ
Engine uses 43 Mb Hash.

Yeah I had to edit that part. I just copy pasted stuff from notepad since this condition is same for all the tests.

It's just that I had had some other engine run 4 seconds per move a night before and forgot to change the settings the next day.
