I have been playing and testing this machine for two weeks, as also reading what it is said of it in many web sites. In these last, seems like the current opinion is that GM is worth 1800 Elo. Some thinks is lot less, around 1650.
As I know many test are made on the base of low levels due to time limits and that 99% of owners of machines play them at also fast time levels and then claims certain Elo as the proper of the machine in EVERY level, I decided to use a high level, level 91 of the machine, which is 40/60, precisely the one I like to use fort my games.
My conclusions: GM is enormously MORE strong in high levels than you can expect just from having more time for deeper analysis. Or to put it differently; GM is enormously weaker at low levels that what he can do at high levels.
According to what I have seen in games against me and other machines, GM CHANGE radically even the style of his playing. Looks like at every extra minute it has, new layers of the program comes to action. To say it all: at level 91 my guess is that GM plays above 2000, even near 2200 mark.
At even superior levels i have not tested yet.
My best
Fern

I am surprised too. I also have the impression that Nelson got lot of inspiration -or lines of code- from old Spracklen stuff. There are some tricks you know very well were proper of the "jungle style" of Champion Challenger. GM is difficult to grasp as much it combines so much different things.

Very interesting Fern. I wish I had kept mine now to test your theory. I only used to play it at around 10 sec per move but found that level it played quite good except the endgame.
BTW many congratulations on becoming a grandfather.

Why are you so sure it is exactly same soft and hard?
I just lost a game to GM in an ending that he managed perfectly to make use of a pawn advantage he got in middle game.
I insist this is another ball game IF you give it more time.

maybe you could try to understand and watch the PGN and EPD stuff to see that we related positions with both machines to find out.
