This question came at my mind because I recently wrote an e-mail for a computer site, and I received a very kind reply of a women, surprisely first one related about computers.

So what about chess?

I did a slight research on Internet, but I found only general information about women's chess championship and some history about women on chess.

Antonia Jeanrenaud participated in the WCCC in 2006. She is the author of EtaBeta. You can see her on that photo (Gerd: were you drinking water ? I can't believe it ;-) ):

Of course there is also Kathe Spracklen:

Linda Scherzer also:

Of course! How could I forgot Kathe Spracklen? On chess she is a great star. 8-)

Now I know two more chess women, thanks you. :)

The video link is great, now most TV programs about computers are too much hype and scandal.

Rémi, what opinion do you have about me? I am a smoker, computer chess and cpw junkie, that is already worse enough. I rarely drink alcohol, except maybe after some social events or during the programmers tournament, where it really is necessary to get some anesthesia to sleep a bit in a shared bedroom with snorring programmers ;-)

In Leiden, when I have to drive by car to the hotel - no drop alcohol druing the tournament!

Sorry Gerd. I was somehow led to believe that Germans only drink beer.

most germans do that. but --- more the generation of my parents (i am 42).
the younger germans not.

e.g. i am mostly drinking black tea.
as a result of generation switch in germany, the major breweries all went bancrupt in germany.

at times of my parents, in the 80ties, there were 5 or 7 big breweries
with amazing amounts of beer per german. but those days are gone.

Yes, Thorsten, also due to the heavy work in coal mining and steel industry in our former industry area, which has vanished today. But there is still a huge alcohol problem with younger germans, not that related with consuming beer, but harder stuff - "Komasaufen" or Binge drinking.
