There is a program named Ychess that deserves a look at it. I met it many years ago in a very simple version and it impressed me. Now it brings lot mor stuff and play....well, you can see.
Probably is one of the last engines that stil seems to make use of full width search or in any case not too selective search.

Yes, it is truth, not a very recent program, but interesting to play and you can do it without paying a cent for a lapse of time.
