I was looking through the CCC archives for the first mention of Rybka and found this amusing exchange.

When I get home from work (like 5:30-6:00 EST) I'll put Zappa on, if you like.

Only a year and a half later, Zappa would win the 2005 WCCC, followed soon after by Rybka's domination of the rating lists and victory at the 2007 WCCC.

Yeah, I think they never expected to have the two strongest chess engines in the world and have a match in where Zappa wins $10000.

It's those kinds of surprises that get us hooked to computer chess.
