Pro Deo 1.5 won't move under Arena.

Post by Dave K »

Initially, I set it up as a Windows engine just as I had for 1.2 by executing ProDeo.exe. It loads and takes up memory but doesn't move. It is using no processor cycles. Same result when I configured it as UCI by executing RebelUCI.exe. I am using prodeo.eng as downloaded with no modifications. Any help?

Set it up as a UCI engine by pointing to the rebeluci.exe and you'll be fine.

I had already tried that with the same results. It loads under the RebelUCI task and then does nothing. All my other Pro Deo version work as native Windows engines by executing Prodeo.exe. This one doesn't work in either Windows mode or RebelUCI mode. The .ENG file, Rebel.eng for Pro Deo 1.2 and Prodeo.eng for 1.5 are identical. 1.5 does not even produce the param.txt file that shows the parameters read out of the .ENG file. Pro Deo 1.2 does.

The reason is a wrong line in Wb2Uci.eng - replace this (second last) line under [EXTRAS] with the following one:

Opening Book=setvar bookfile books\%s.bin|combo|mainbook|mainbook|tourbook

Okay - my apologies for making a wrong assumption.

Not a very informative answer!

You wrote in your previous post:
"All my other Pro Deo version work as native Windows engines by executing Prodeo.exe."

What the hell is a "native Windows engine"? :o

It would be interesting to know,
a) in which GUI you try to run it? (Fritz? Arena? ...)
b) which file you choose as ´engine´? RebelUCI.exe? ProDeo.exe? (or even Rebel.eng???)

Slip of the tongue. Should have said Winboard. It's configured in Arena. Have tried Winboard by executing prodeo.exe. When that didn't work, I then tried UCI by executing rebeluci.exe.

Fixed!

Since Pro Deo has to be installed manually under Arena as setup doesn't work for that platform, I extracted it to my Pro Deo directory. In the process I screwed up the directory structure. Re-downloaded and extracted correctly, and everything is fine.
