grid chess at the wccc: supercharged toga?

It looks like gridchess has some chances at the wccc.

My understanding is that it is basically toga on some sort of multiple pc platform. can anybody explain what it is in everday language?

Also, I did not know you could use an engine that was not original at these tournements?

My understanding of the thing is that is uses Crafty to do the parallel search stuff, and then uses toga/fruit to conduct the individual searches on each node. That's all I have really seen.
