Playing Super Constellation

The Super Constellation with its 6502 CPU came out in 1984.

I also remember something about a rapid chess tournament (5 or 10 minutes) in Holland (Dieren near Arnhem)
around 1984 perhaps 1985 where these constellation machines were allowed to play.

Some players where afraid of them. You should play very tame and closed positions they told me to have a chance. I think I lost the game anyhow.
There was also something with mephisto machines, I don't remember anymore. I never played against mephisto.

I still have my Novag Constellation and it also still works fine, 29 years later! (Somewhere I also have the original receipt that came with it!)

The Super Connie is one of the all time classic dedicated chess
computers, a 'must' in any collection. It did have a database for
KBN/k, and it had a programmable opening library.
The programmer, Dave Kittinger, dropped into this forum a little
over a year ago. Do a search on him and you will quickly find it, it's
a long thread, and it was a pleasure to have him here.
Remember that in the mid 80's the programmers had to try to
produce strength with meager resources. We have to take our hats
off to them.

I always wanted one of those but never got one. I did buy a Novag Super Expert 'C', not sure if they were related somehow or not.

The Super Expert C was a later model - stronger and more expensive again.

Hi Steve,

I have the prestige which I thought had the best looking sensory board out there where Mephesto was second. However Steve what I notice now is that some of the relays on the board squares dont work reliably and probably need to be cleaned of sut is my guess. If I have alot of trouble getting this cleaned up would you have any suggestions where to send it? BTW are you familiar with the Prestige model? It is one good lookin machine.

Yes the Presitige is probably one of the most Beautiful dedicated chess computers ever released for sale
that is the problem with the old auto-sensory boards
sooner or later those reed switches will go bad
they will need to be replaced i am sorry to say
you can try this yourself but unless you feel comfy with a soldering iron i wouldnt suggest it
whenever one of my boards go bad i bring it into a local Electronics repair shop and they find it fairly easy to repair
you should have a shop somewhere close to you
