Fortunately most KDE programs can also be run in Gnome and vice versa. I had no time so far to take a look at. Maybe it is better to wait until it is out of alpha stage.

Because its Winboard interface is totally buggy. To say it in the most polite, benevolent style I'm able to. However, Einboard/Xboard+Polyglot works perfectly.

Except the circumstance that it does not work. I tried it really hard with the help of C. Conkie and H. Erickson: no success without doing things not to recommend.
