Re: Back to the basics, generating moves on gpu in parallel.

GPU programming, to acheive high number of moves per second, needs a different approach to conventional CPU. GPU programming must have efficient feeding of data to kernels running on lots and lots of threads. One must think carefull of memory access pattern to get high performance. It is sometimes e...

Re: Speed of logical ports

I was going to suggest a Xilinx FPGA, but MAX 10 is Altera ! Anyway there are a lot of VHDL or Verilog eBooks to learn programming FPGA. I used VHDL with Vivado and Xilinx Spartan 6 small Papilio, Zynq ZC706 and Ultrascale VCU110. I have been reading a lot of source code from various chess engines a...

Re: Speed of logical ports

For assessing the speed of port/gates, like you suggest Stefano, you can read the "FPGAs Data Sheet: DC and AC Switching" PDF for each model/family, for e.g. Spartan 6 or Virtex UltraScale. Timing is few ns (nano second) translating in hundreds of MHz of clock speed. Techniques like adding pipeline ...

APALIS > https://www.toradex.com/computer-on-modules/apalis-arm-family/nvidia-tegra-k1 ... One could stack many of them in rack with a small switch and get some nice Chess engine once OpenCL implementations are more mature ... stacking many of them in rack reminds me of the FPGA-based COPACOBANA and...

Re: GTX Titan video cards

Ankan ... could you please give us your expert GPU view on the following 1) does perft_gpu would run on a Tesla K80 ? I think you are using some 3x Titan X GPU for perft14, from what I read on the forum. 2) estimate how long if would take for 8x Tesla K80 (in a Xeon-based 64-bit server with 6-cores ...
