Re: GUI for Nemeton: Nemeton3D

Update. - Option for coordinates next to the board. - Can choose a black background instead of the grey default. - Move list on screen option. In SAN now which was tricky because I stored game history as two bytes per move without SAN information which I only generated for the PV moves. Had to separ...

Re: So who is an expert at making a Windows GUI?

Nice board! Especially for 1996. What kind of resolution did that run at and do you keep this paper version on your wall as a poster? :) The new stone looks very realistic and the deep red reminds me of a wax seal. I saw in your GL parameters list where you had the x and y dimensions in pixels the p...

Re: So who is an expert at making a Windows GUI?

That sounds like a good solution. Do you have a screenshot of your program? I searched lazily but couldn't find anything but trees :) Yeah, http://talkchess.com/forum/viewtopic.php?topic_view=threads&p=702705&t=62588 though I uploaded new versions to that archive since then and there are now a bunc...

Re: So who is an expert at making a Windows GUI?

Beware that writing a GUI requires typically between 10 and 100 times more effort than writing an engine, depending on the number of features you want to support. For something with the complexity of Winboard or Arena sure, that takes years. But Ed seems to want something fairly straight forward th...

Added.: A red lightbulb in the clock buttons upon flagging. Adding 99 centiseconds to the clock displays as that's how my DGT seems to do it Ie.: Display initial time for a second and flag immediately upon 00:00. Bishops and knights taller again. Various stuff. The 5 strength reduced modes to the Wi...

Re: The Computer Chess Community

You tell us the computer chess community is small, unknown, cold and mean. You then tell us we should not care about computer chess and especially not about the people behind it. Because chess players do not care etc. Not easy to further reduce such argumentation to absurdity. You selectively and co...

Re: The Computer Chess Community

Nothing like a rush of hot air on a chilly winter's day. "I'll tell you something. Look here. I'm a gentleman. You are despicable bullies. Let me make wild generalisations. I'm a genius chessplayer. You haven't played chess for decades. Here's what I know. Regardless, I don't care. " Oh, okay. https...

Re: Progress in 30 years by four intervals of 7-8 years

How this is a problem for Commodore Amiga 1000 of 1985 (Motorola 68000 CPU), with its 512 kB DRAM? Porting of Stockfish on it is known, as I wrote in an earlier post. People could have had a 2800+ FIDE ELO engine (Stockfish 8) by 1985. It isn't. But specifically the C64 was mentioned and a lot of d...
