Re: Exact TT scores and alpha/beta

What else is there, other than the search window and the depth? How wide the window is? One issue of search with agressive reductions and such is that score becomes more accurate the more often you research a node. For example because hashtable moves are not reduced. In Nemeton I deliberately close...

Re: Aspiration window problem

Hey guys, I have a question about aspiration search as well and don't want to create another thread about it (Since this one is about aspiration search as well) The implementation of PVS+ aspiration windows I found on the chessprogramming wiki seems to be a implementation for fail-soft. What`s the ...

Re: On-line engine blitz tourney October

We have to evaluate how we liked the McMahon pairing system. I think the pairings were generally better than before. The final scoring however..is very confusing. So maybe an option is to keep this system for pairing but resort back to actual game scores for the results? Though I'm sure you thought...

Re: Jumbo 0.5.3 - Birth of the Jumbo Twins

I suppose that with 'classical mailbox' you mean a program that must scan over the board for slider moves to see where these end, and thus cannot really selectively generate captures without effectively passing through all non-captures, and cannot do staged generation of non-captures in MVV order? ...

Re: Where's the joy in writing a chess engine?

It's an intellectual challenge. The game of chess is just complex enough so that you can approach the problem in endless different ways yet seemingly logical enough to have an irresistible attraction to some programmers minds. Every chess programming layman must start out at some point thinking they...

Re: On-line engine blitz tourney September

Very strange! In my tests (30k games) emba consistently won from dorpsgek and now it is at the bottom of the list?! The field seems to keep getting stronger every edition. But as Daniel pointed out luck plays a huge part. It's only 9 rounds. Take the last round where you are often paired with a rel...

3D printing chess pieces. Specifically those of Nemeton3D

Hello, As I am reasonably happy with how the chess pieces of my Nemeton3D GUI turned out, I would quite like to have this as a tangible set in real life. But because I am completely new to 3D printing I would like to ask for advice. Or even someone willing to give this a go for me. How difficult is ...

Re: On-line engine blitz tourney August

Nemeton held The Baron to a draw. One of it's lifetime high's. :D Interestingly on only one cpu and most of it's reductions and pruning ripped out. Came to the conclusion my reductions/pruning didn't bring anything but extra code. Searching 12 ply like this is tactically very bad but positionally ve...
