Re: Armageddon Openings released
I agree with you that the time limit can be a bit faster now due to all the prep. I also agree that chess 960 is not an ideal solution to the prep problem, but I think that it is better than ignoring the problem. Basically we are just watching computers play each other for the first 15 to 20 moves ...

Re: Armageddon Openings released
I had a good laugh today when it occurred to me that it is Larry Kaufman who is responsible for the (mythical) disease he seeks to cure - draws in chess! Let me explain. I was watching today's Sinquefield Cup coverage and at a moment when Anand could apparently have unleashed 19 Rd1 Qb6, 20 Rd7! (a...

Re: Armageddon Openings released
Again, I personally do not really think we need to change much at the top level – there is no lack of interest nor would it seem, lack of sponsorship…just some who moan at the number of draws although the content is really quite high. That is my point. However, speeding up the time controls slightly...

Re: Armageddon Openings released
If you look at the percentage of draws in top level events like the current one in St. Louis, it is obvious that something must be done for top-level human chess to remain interesting. I don't blame the players, it is the rules that need revision. Maybe chess 960 will catch on, but if not we need t...

Re: Komodo 13.1 released
Yes, honestly I think it was a really lame interview - the questions that is. I have learned so much more in even a single post by Larry or Mark on this forum. :D I suppose they had to dumb it down for the average reader so I can't blame them. I am really enjoying using MCTS in 13.02 (needed the upd...

Re: WCCC 2019 Macau..
If a tournament claims the title of "World Championship" but either fails to: i) Allow the strongest chess entities to participate (n/a here) ii) The strongest chess entities can't / don't want to participate then questions do need to be asked how it is a "World Championship", and not just a normal...

Komodo 13.02 finds 24...Rh8 with an edge for Black, 2 core on my machine while I was watching an old (not that there are any other!) episode of Hogans Hero's.

Re: Komodo MCTS
I saw a screen shot somewhere of Komodo MCTS and I know it had multiple CPU's involved...3 or something as there were 3 lines being looked at. It showed something like depth = 24/17; had to be in a Chessbase GUI. Exactly what does that depth mean in Komodo? It struck me because I remember Ntirlis i...
