Re: First knight odds match with IM Saturday

I only tried SF and I beat it without problems although I took some practice to get to that point. What are the optimal settings for Komodo? Is it better to use standard one or MCTS? I will renew my subscription to try it.

Re: First knight odds match with IM Saturday

It's still hard to believe for me that you can lose a rapid game starting N up if you just play classical openings and keep the centre. I mean playing the Sicilian or Bogo-like opening allowing white to take space can't be an optimal strategy in those. I would love to try it myself. What kind of har...

Opening book based on human games?

Hi, I am looking for the opening book (.ctg or .bin) with the following in mind: -it's based on modern (say last 10-15 years) human master level+ games (say 2400+ or 2300+, doesn't matter exactly) -the frequencies in the book corresponding (doesn't need to be exact match) to the frequencies chosen i...

Re: Configure a threadripper 3 workstation with up to 4 GPUs

CORSAIR Vengeance LPX 256GB (8 x 32GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3200 (PC4 25600) Desktop Memory Model CMK256GX4M8E3200C16 for $1235 on newegg.
This is great as that's the only one I've seen which is clocked at 3200Mhz.
Sadly it seems not available in Europe yet but I hope it soon will be.

Re: Configure a threadripper 3 workstation with up to 4 GPUs

Any way to get 256GB of RAM on those? I am clueless about hardware and when looking for dimms which are 32GB (so I could get 8x32) I only see some "dedicated" dies running at 2400Mhz (which seems kinda slow?).
Did anyone made a TR build with 256GB of RAM already?

Re: Fritz 17

There is nothing in the GPL about number of other software options or number of possible outputs. It seems you have some idea about some very restrictive license and assume it's what GPL is like. It's neither sanity not reality. Just read the license, it's not that long.

Re: Fritz 17

Of course? If you need GPL software (modified) to obtain them, how can they be outside the purview of the GPL license? Shouldn't it be possible to sell them back, as stated in the quoted text? The same way documents created with Libre Office aren't covered by GPL or programs compiled with GCC aren'...

Re: Is e4 significantly better than d4?

Looking at ChessTempo database which conveniently shows performance rating for all the moves and filtering for 2700+ vs 2700+ games I can see: 1.e4 - 2792 1.d4 - 2791 1.Nf3 - 2793 1.c4 - 2794 Looks pretty even to me. It's likely more useful to look at 2600+ games from last 10 years instead because s...

Re: Lc0 - SF10 fun games

1.g4 may actually be losing though :)
As to Leelenstein game: one recurring them in NN vs alpha-beta engines games is the NN engine pushing h4-h5-h6. Maybe SF could be improved if the value of the maneuver was somehow included in search or eval.
