Re: WinBoard-AA beta release

Unlike polyglot, the reason for UCI2WB is that it doesn't know anything about game rules, so it is far more malleable for chess variants. As such, is more inline of the goals xboard. Though not knowing about chess rules makes it difficult for chess algebraic notation. :) (Nf3? Which Knight?) We real...

Re: WinBoard-AA beta release

Isn't the whole point of an adapter is to take input from one protocol and output to another? That notation wouldn't be within the winboard protocol. Xboard itself has all sorts of programing to make such assumptions for moves with little data, but most engines aren't really meant to be smart in tha...

Re: WinBoard-AA beta release

If we nix polyglot, should we also remove the USI/UCCI checkbox since there would only be one adapter? (Or rather make the UCI one a UCI/UCCI/USI checkbox?)

Re: Problem to run XBoard with Mac command line

unfortunately it has to be compiled with the app. I'll try to find time to set it up tomorrow and send you the compiled file you can throw into your xboard app

Re: WinBoard-AA beta release

But I am not sure we are there yet. Sounds good to me, I'm all for more simplicity and having two UCI adapters is a bit much. That said it's going to be hard to fully kill polyglot as entrenched as it is. It's hard enough to get people to not use some 15 year old version of the program as it is, as...

Re: Problem to run XBoard with Mac command line

Already did. I was afraid it was different, because I noticed a bunch of different strings on the bottom, but turns out they were all commented out, and the generated stuff ended above.

Re: Problem to run XBoard with Mac command line

I'd be surprised if the "Translation Team" wasn't just the one person who was active at a given moment. And that's if that team is lucky. Maybe there was a Vietnamese translator as part of the project years ago, but not now. I wouldn't say they promote their project very much, and barrier for entry ...

Re: WinBoard-AA beta release

Will UCI2WB be replacing Polyglot in the future? Should I nix Polyglot in future OSX xboard releases?

Re: Problem to run XBoard with Mac command line

Yeah that's just for the OSX xboard menu. The gettext .po file has some 720 odd strings. But you have to go through the translation project. I took a look. The translation project's vi project is in some real dire need of love ... The one you sent him may have been for winboard? I fear it's a differ...

Re: MinGW AlphaBlend

That is a good point to keep in mind. When we do not shy away from making it a big install that includes all kinds of non-native libraries, including Windows support for GTK + Cairo + SVG, simply using XBoard seems the obvious solution. Well all those libraries are non native for OSX too. The whole...
