Re: Training with engines

The new version of ICC`s Dasher interface comes along with a new feature: it is possible to play against the built-in engine (Crafty) and choose a level of play... (I thought someone did already that using Winboard). Other engines can be chosen too (UCI or Winboard, not Chessbase's) but it is not po...

CM challenge: a preview of ChessMaster 11?

I got a download of CM Challenge and played against it, it seems to be very similar to CM 10th. edition (my favourite is CM 9000). Is this a preview of CM 11 ? Does anyone know which new features CM 11 will bring to us?

Re: Training with engines

What I thought was to play against some weaker engines, as I don`t believe the strongest ones can be set to lower levels - I tryed that many times and got crushed; of course I`m playing real chess, not anti-computer strategy which is useless. At WBEC Ridderkerk`s site there is a rating list which sh...

Re: Buy Rybka 2 series or not?

I have Rybka 1.2f, HIARCS 11, Shredder 9, Fritz 9 and several of the free download engines, such as Fruit 2.3.1 and Naum 2.0. - Isn`t this enough? Is it worth while to get the Rybka series 2 engines, while I will have the single processors? If I would get a really significant improvement, I could s...

Training with engines

I`m preparing for a 21 min KO tournament and decided to play some games using Arena or FritzGUI with some engines. The difficulty is to choose 10 engines at about my strengh - 2029 FIDE. I`d like to find some nominees... any help? Otherwise, do you think that it is a good test? Are there any rating ...

Re: Best Chess Engine (other than rybka & zappa) ?

I do this very often (analyse opening moves) with many engines. My own conclusions: - Toga and Fruit are very solid in openings; - When you`re playing gambits or very imbalanced positions let Junior analyse it; - Rybka`s moves and evaluations are sometimes weird - at least to me (2029 FIDE). I`ve he...

Re: Which is better for studying chess?

I`m always making the same question to myself... I was used to read many chess books, but as software gets more and more interactive I`m buying them now. The best one I bought was dvoretsky`s Endgame manual from Chessbase (CD). I`m looking for some DVD series too, mostly about endgames and tactics. ...

Re: Linux and xboard

Try using Arena under Linux.
Just install Wine. Arena runs from your HD`s FAT or NTFS partition. The only difference is that you`ll have to assign the path to your engines again, but that`s quite easy, just a few clicks under Arena GUI.
It`s also _much_ easier to run eng-eng matches!
