Re: EXchess v7.17 released

Hi Everyone, EXchess v7.17 is now available from my new webaddress... https://sites.google.com/site/experimentalchessprogram/ This version is a modest improvement on v7.11, as I haven't had much development time; however, I think it may have gained about 20-30 elo over the previous version. More im...

Re: Personal ICS Survey question

I personally don't mind any number of games from engines within about 200 points, but I don't like many games in a row from engines much more than 200 points higher if they are not run by the author. I am not worried about protecting/building my rating, but I just prefer to play engines where the op...

Re: Testing Question, interface lags

ChessGUI has the possibility of an overstep time to allow engines. Do you typically use this? If so, what is a typical setting? I have made a lot of progress in measuring and trying to account for the lag during play, but EXchess is still sometimes flagging on the last move before time control. A s...

Re: Testing Question, interface lags

Some GUIs seem to handle this situation better than others. What GUI are you using in Linux ? Is it command line like cutechess ? Mostly cutechess on the command line, but also xboard. The tiny lags I mentioned in linux were measured under xboard, and I assume cutechess would be even less. - Dan

Re: Testing Question, interface lags

Of course, linux is my development environment for the reasons you mention. 99% of my games are played there. But it can be useful to test under a variety of conditions and environment.

Testing Question, interface lags

Hi, I have a question for regular testers under windows. I have recently tried more testing under windows, and I've found that EXchess gets flagged more often than I imaged in fast games (blitz). My normal development environment for EXchess is linux, and under linux, I never have a time flag issue....

Re: chess programmer benefits

I started chess programming while a graduate student in Physics (astrophysics), and it really helped me to develop my programming skills. A direct benefit is that I frequently write scripts and simulations to do many research tasks that otherwise would take a long time (or simply couldn't be done at...
