Re: Tim_Jim- What Am I overlooking Here!?

First, how did this version start off as 4529 and end up as 4558 after a few threads? Looks like Jim built a development version straight out of Octochess' source repository. As it's not an officially released version, beware of bugs as I haven't done any QA on that particular revision. I really wo...

Re: Octochess r4529

But instead just run the exes and in console mode type in "go depth 22" and it will run thru 22 depths. That's an UCI command, so you'll either need to pass uci as argument to the executable or instead send uci as first line before you can issue further UCI commands. Reason is that Octochess defaul...

Re: Introducing Octochess

I'm trying to download the source code. Is there a tarball for it ? All I have is this link which is horribly impractical https://svn.filezilla-project.org/svn/chess/ It's the URL of a Subversion repository. You can use any Subversion client to download the repository contents using that URL. In ca...

Re: Introducing Octochess

Thank you Jim. I've added an #if around the non-native popcount and applied your changes to the repository.

Unfortunately I don't have an account at ICC. I do not plan to sign up for another subscription service at this point.

Re: Introducing Octochess

I tried running your Windows compile on my non-SSE 4.2 x64 system, and it didn't seem to work. I guess it's a compile that would need a CPU with POPCNT support? Yes, Octochess makes use of the POPCNT instruction through the __popcnt64 intrinsic. SSE 4.2 shouldn't be required though, it's a differen...

Introducing Octochess

Greetings, I'd like to introduce Octochess , a new chess engine I've been working on since July 2011. It's an open source and cross-platform engine using CECP and distributed under the terms and conditions of the GPL. The engine itself is quite boring, it just employs many of the well-known concepts...
