Similarity tester - 2nd generation - BETA

I am working on the documentation of SIMEX 2.0 which is meant to be the successor of Don Dailey's famous SIM03 Similarity Tester. SIMEX works the same way but is more user-friendly, has more features but the main advantage is that you are no longer limited to the build-in 8238 positions of SIM03 but...

Re: RSIF as alternative to armageddon

Another way, in the old days when hardware was limited (few hundred games) and depths were low I maintained a statistic that counted games that ended in a draw while during the game one side had a winning score (say 2.50).

Re: Database snapshot

For those who want to probe my database locally or for other unspecified reasons, here is a full database snapshot of my book project as of today: ftp://ftp.chessdb.cn/pub/chessdb/data-snapshot-20190728.tar The database contains about 3 billion unique chess positions, mostly connected to startpos, ...

Re: Poly 1.5 - Book tuning by WDL

Absolutely, all the information is available for the engine programmer.

Maybe something for the next version, it should work for non-programmers as well.

Poly 1.5 - Book tuning by WDL

The next step in the evolution of the Polyglot book is to add a WDL (won | draw | loss) statistic to book moves offering the following advantages: 1. Make the WDL visible, see the example made with the latest ProDeo; 2. Tuning the weight using the WDL instead of the Stockfish evaluation score. 3. In...

Re: Math question.

Glad to see that it might be useful! Your formula is working like a charm. Steps 1) I created a quality PGN database between human players of at least 2500 elo. 2) Made of Polyglot book of it. 3) Created the WDL statistics. 4) Started to tune the book with your formula "a" which I have babtized as ...

Re: Math question.

Given the big difference of played games of the 'Big Four' (43.18%, 36.48%, 10.57% and 8.08%), I obtain plausible weights IMHO although the math is not so simple. You can tweak the parameters z and a . z ~ 1.96 or z = 2 are pretty standard, but a is more subjective and susceptible of being tested. ...

Re: Math question.

As you can see, a = 1 gives your original weights. a =< 0 gives weird weights (like giveaway, worst is best) and a -> +infinity awards the most played move regardless its score. I like the formula especially because it's so easily to tune with a parameter [a], I think I am going to use it, so thanks.

Buying a refurbished computer

I think to buy a new computer and I wonder what is the elo of stockfish and lc0 for different prices of hardware. Is there a table for comparison that give price and elo estimate for both? The "buying a new computer" thread inspired me to share my experience with refurbished workstations and have b...
