qsearch in crafty

I found this FEN in a thread from 2002 titled qsearch explosion : r4rk1/1p1n1pp1/1bq1bn1p/p1pp4/2P2B2/1NNP2P1/PPQ2PBP/R4RK1 w - - 0 19 On a 4 ply search, my engine searches 223k qsearch nodes, 2369 non-qsearch nodes. Looking at crafty today I saw this: //crafty-23.4, quiesce.c //line 205->209 if ...

Re: Please advise me how to make the computer chess on this.

Do you have a working physical version? It looks like it would be fun to play. I could write an AI for that, but it would be all random moves :p Have you written software for any other games like chess? If not I would start with standard chess or checkers until you see how the boards are represented...

Re: New spanish chess engine.

You can enter in the console mode with the command: ./Godel -console Thx, that worked, I'll see if I can install xboard later today. In my modest opinion, you should not use the root user in Linux in a terminal in linux. Good advice for many, but don't assume you are secure by running as an unprivi...

What happens in a TT for qsearch then? I don't know how to get the draft there until qsearch is done. Do I only store the board score for each ply?

Re: TT buckets

Good one. I didn't see the code. It's backward and would REALLY kill chess skill. You'd actually want that entry to get overwritten so you could do a deeper than 2 ply search. :) Thx for the clarifications Robert & Sven. I figured I could use depth from root instead of draft and would only need to ...

Re: New spanish chess engine.

Congrats on your engine! I'm looking forward to trying it out. I downloaded the opening book and placed it in the folder with the binary and I get this error: root@brain:~/Godel_2.0.3_x32_Linux# ./Godel # Godel 2.0.3 under Xboard/Winboard. # Copyright (C) Juan Manuel Vázquez (Spain)...

Re: TT buckets

Nope, it will make it worse. If you get more EXACT hits, you get more short PVs. You can look at Crafty to see an alternative. An extra TT that stores just paths. When I store an EXACT entry (not very often) I use the alternate TT to store the complete path from the terminal position back to that T...

Re: TT buckets

The 'triangular array' method should not be that hard to understand. I was using a triangular array at one point. I can't find the exact page where I got the code from but it was almost identical to the code at the bottom of this page (The page I learned from had a black background and I can't find...

Re: TT buckets

Are you taking the PV from the hash after the search? Yes. I was storing the PV in a separate table for a while but I realized I was doing it wrong. I was storing it in a c# dictionary indexed by zob hash. This doesn't work because it grows forever, if I clear it out then I get shortened PV's again...
