Re: Komodo 11.01 vs asmFish 170522

Isn't asmFish assembly language and the main reason it is always stronger than the comparable Stockfish version is it based on? Why isn't the 'official' versions of Komodo ever done using assembly? Because assembly is very hard to maintain and unportable. It has an Android port, remember, and x86 a...

Re: 64th Amateur Series Division 8

Good to see Embla here too 😊 It is the friend of Isa in the HGM monthly tourney lol Just noticed there is a new Dorpsgek Graham :) Hi Dany, Matthew has asked me to hold off using the new Dorpsgek, as he'll likely be releasing a stronger version soon. Due to a change of plan, and the strengt...

Re: Dorpsgek Dillinger

Surprisingly, Dorpsgek isn't dead yet. I'm not sure whether to be impressed or worried. Anyway, the short version is that this seems to be around the CCRL 2200 mark, making it about 50 elo stronger than Cosmopolitan 2. I'm also going to say that in my mildly sleep deprived state I forgot to update ...

Re: What's the cheapest NUMA machine for engine development?

There are lots of used dual Xeon systems on eBay. A working dual quad system seems to run about $175 and up. One example: http://www.ebay.com/itm/DELL-PRECISION-690-WORKSTATION-DUAL-XEON-QUAD-CORE-2-33GHZ-8GB-1TB-HD-263-/152577215903?hash=item23864f8d9f:g:uHcAAOSw1WJZFMRY --Jon Vincent Diepeveen re...

Re: Problems with SEE

First of all, my apologies for the delay - real life has been a bit hectic recently. As also noted by Michael, I would not use SEE as part of the initial move scoring since that would require to unconditionally call it for several moves even if they would never actually be searched (due to an earlie...

Re: Texel tuning method question

I just started to tune my evaluation parameters using the Texel tuning method. I am using the q-search score but the problem with this is that calculating the error for my testset (4 million positions) takes about 20 seconds. The reason that this takes so long is that about 16 million positions are...

Re: Problems with SEE

...I'm also gonna experiment with SEE pruning in QS, which seems to be a very big loss for me, oddly enough.... if(!Pos::easy_capture(pos, cMove)) { if(Pos::see(pos, cMove) < 0) { continue; } } QS is of course much more time sensitive, therefor you sh...

Re: Problems with SEE

The SEE scores are used for move ordering in both QS and AB. But how are they used? If you would sort all captures by SEE score... That is well known to be no good. Okay, so that's what I am doing in my program. What's the right way? Hi, you can use SEE to move losing moves (not only captures) to t...

Re: Problems with SEE

Knowing something never changes the result. It depends on how you use the knowledge. Calculating SEE for every capture won't do anything (other than wasting time) when you would still sort the captures in the same order as without using SEE. So the question is, how do you use the SEE values? Main c...
