Re: David Silver (Deepmind) inaccuracies

The full video is at https://youtu.be/A3ekFcZ3KNw I like this new approach, as much as I like SF knowledge embedded into it source code. I think deep learning has a lot to show us, its true knowledge of chess encapsulated into its weights will also need some novel visualization methods to show us m...

Re: Google's AlphaGo team has been working on chess

In the wake of the news about AlphaZero, we are indeed not particularly interested in Romi's learning. Nor are we interested in Crafty's learning or in any of the many other position-based learning implementations that existed before AlphaZero. All those approaches simply have nothing to do with Al...

Re: David Silver (Deepmind) inaccuracies

It is pure speculation that anything went on 'behind the scenes' at all. This seems pretty close to publicly stating that your next-door neighbor might be a pedophile, based on the fact that you have not been in his bedroom all the time. well... maybe so... there's something about Deepmind that I d...

Re: David Silver (Deepmind) inaccuracies

Why does not it do the very same with black, not a single king side fianchetto, Bg7? Perhaps the fact chess is an asymmetric game might be part of the explanation. Anyway NN have the specific disadvantage of not being able to explain their behaviour. So it's no use asking why A0 play this or that m...

Re: To TPU or not to TPU...

Oh, that is much less than I expected. Still, if you figure in the time factor, it seems that Stockfish development consumed orders of magnitude more expensive resources (cores x price/core x time) than AlphaZero. I must admit... it is impressive what Deepmind did ... to go from basically nothing t...

Re: David Silver (Deepmind) inaccuracies

[Moderation] It would be a pity if this interesting topic would degenerate into bickering between TCEC, WCCC and chess.com fans of why all other tournaments suck. For those who want to discuss about that, please open a new thread for it. The AlphaZero team probably picked Stockfish because they ass...

Re: To TPU or not to TPU...

5,000 processing units ... okay ... how much does one of these cost ... 25 million USD for the whole system of 5000 TPUs, according to AlphaGoZero article. Google does not sell them. But I think for a guy having over 25m USD, willing to spend he can still buy ;) so ... let me see if I get this righ...
