Re: Blind Alley (endgame study)

A nice study. Again I was too restrictive. One simple modification and Sting solves it quickly. I had stoped searching and started auto-playing (5 sec./move) to display full solution and to prove that it is draw. info depth 33 multipv 1 score cp -135 nodes 239957130 nps 719166 time 333660 pv f1e2 a7...

Re: Sting SF 16

A next example proving that auto-playing can be a wonderful idea, not only to display full solutions (based on chess rules: draw or mate), but to solve some very difficult positions too. Popov Georgy & Hanyan Aleksei (part of study - full with black pawn h5) qn6/b1Kp3p/p1pB3p/p7/P1NkP3/2pP4/2B5/8 w ...

Re: Sting SF 16

As I earlier wrote, I am working at a very interesting alternative in solving. it is the auto-playing. A problem is how to solve such positions: 4b3/5p2/2p4p/P1p1PN2/2pn2P1/P2k4/Pr1npKN1/B7 w - - 0 1 The Neghina's study after 8 easy moves (g2e1 d3c3 f5g3 e8d7 a5a6 d7c8 a6a7 c8b7) leads to: 8/Pb3p2/2...

Re: Sting SF 16

BTW. I recommend to use Sting with minimum 1024M hash. Can you provide an example where this provides an improvement? I haven't been able to see any engine improving with more than 128MB hash, and even improvement from 64MB to 128MB was negligible. But perhaps Sting is different and it's an engine ...

Re: Sting SF 16

This version starts with threads = 1 and Hash = 1024M. I hope it is not a problem. Hash = 1024 is definitively a problem, I usually have many engines loaded to they're sent to the swap file. Load Sting first and change hash to your liked value. BTW. I recommend to use Sting with minimum 1024M hash.

That's great. I'd like to know more about what you changed.
There is nothing new to explain users.

Some very important changes.
I found next bugs in "Stockfish 2.1.1" and now I hope Sting should work in a stable way (without crashing).

Re: Sting SF 15 64-bit Gauntlet for CCRL 40/40

Thanks Graham and all testers!
It seems to be a good result and I hope the next versions will keep it. :D
It is really very important to know the ELO difference between newest Sting 15 and old Stockfish 2.1.1 .

Re: sting 15

The number, after forward, means the count of skipped moves from PV-line returned earlier by searching. It is your choise how many moves you want to skip. I recommend to stop searching and to skip move(s), if it (they) satisfies you and to start searching from the new place. Next or instead of the ...
