Re: Passed Pawns (endgame)

All the proposed patch attempts do work well with this position. Except the patches from SF team, because, so far, they haven't shown any. 8-) I don't have any patch to show, sorry. Actually I am not very interested in tweaking for a given position. I consider good a patch that proves to increase s...

Re: Passed Pawns (endgame)

All mentioned above patches don’t work with my new position. Only change of value “Passed Pawns (endgame)” gives result. In my opinion, a pawn on 7(2) line is no longer the same pawn. Nothing special compared to the other examples. Why shouldn't it work? don't work = to play moves like Kg7->...

Re: Passed Pawns (endgame)

I found the next position which SF 171 (default options +zugzwang detection) can’t win (probably all other engines too  ). It took me a little time because I had wanted to find an extreme simple and obvious example. [d] 8/6kP/1p6/p7/Pr6/K2B4/8/8 b - - 0 1 1...Rh4 2.Kb3 Kf6 3.Kc3 Ke5 (the rest ...

Re: Passed Pawns (endgame)

Thanks Sven, I understood you. I compiled SF without the line 906 and I will try to test it (some, created by me, positions).

Re: Passed Pawns (endgame)

One should almost never consider changing code because of one test position :) 100 point bonus [passed pawns (endgame)] makes correct play more difficult (time-consuming) or impossible, if opposite Pawn reached 7(2) line, and King should be active. Example (one of many tested by me): [d] 8/6kP/1p4B...

Re: Passed Pawns (endgame)

The both positions are “probably  ” won for black, but it is not easy. However, the default value of “passed pawns (endgame)” should remain “100”. I tested same positions with possibilities to get a passed pawn in endgame. I used SF 1.7.1 and Fire 1.2. Fire seems to be more careful than...

Re: Passed Pawns (endgame)

My suggestion: This option may be: „possibility to get passed pawn (endgame)” (default 100), but when such a pawn already exists, not to add any bonus.
