What is the approximate rating of Shredder for IPhone 4?

The program says full strength is 2600, but I wonder how does this compare with any program-program testing?
Thanks in advance,
Gerald

Re: Scid vs. PC 4.9

Hello Steven, thanks for your hard work on Scid. I am confused though on what is the main difference between the "regular" Scid (i.e. vers 4.4), and the Scid vs. PC series.
I want to load one of them on my new quad machine but how do I know which one I need?

Thanks
Gerald

Question about using Gaviota

Hello, Gaviota is a very nice engine. I want to use it in analysis mode in my GUIs (Fritz, Shredder, etc.) When I hit the analyze button nothing happens. I have loaded the engine in UCI mode. I am probably doing something wrong.
I would appreciate helpful comments. Thanks in advance,
Gerald

In a few games after 15-20 moves the program offers a draw if it evaluates the position as equal or in my favor. This does not happened with some of the other stronger engines I play against. I noticed...

Chess Engine, GUI troubleshooting

A new laptop for computer chess

I am going to buy a new laptop for computer chess.
Quad-core and the usual memory. Does Windows 8 seem to work okay with the usual GUIs and engines or should I try to get Windows 7?
Thanks,
Gerald

Strongest opening book for Arena GUI for human-computer game

Hello I want to play some very slow games, almost correspondence times, against some engines using the Arena GUI.
What are some suggestions for an arena opening book? I still have the old Harry Schapp books, are there any more recent books that would be somone could suggest?
Thanks,
Gerald

Re: Problems with Hiarcs 14 engines in Hiarcs Chess Explorer

Hello Mr. Muller, yes we did this and both engines checked out fine.
Still problems in the GUI though as I described.
