Toledo Nanochess: The commented source code (book)

Hi guys. Finally I've documented the source code of Toledo Nanochess in this book, so after all these years the comments are official from the programmer ;) Every piece of code is fully documented. Besides if someone remembers it, I made a 1K Javascript Chess for the JS1K contest (2010) which also I...

Re: The end of ChessWar

What a sad news!

I've to say that ChessWar and OpenWar were great ways to test Toledo Nanochess, and thanks to these tournaments I was able to improve several things.

My best wishes for Olivier, he has been always very kind in email and is a great person.

Re: Your first chess program.

I started in 1989 with a chess program written in Z80 machine code for computer with 6 digit led display, barely used 2K, it played sometimes and others it simply stood stuck :). Was my best, as I had age 10. Later in 1992 was when I finally coded my first working chess program. :)

Re: Need a little help from a Pascal guru (Chess05 Frey/Atki

I'm fact I have the source of Chess 0.5 from "The Byte Book of Pascal", the listings are faded, I've typed it one time  and managed to get it compiled, I don't remember what I did with it, but it was so slow and not as strong as I thought :? .
Any idea of ELO rating with your modifications?

Re: Vintage Chess Programming

Although you can program a chess program in C for 6502 (or Z80), if you want to implement a reasonable opponent in real hardware I would recommend strongly to write directly in assembler.
Several German chess machines Mephisto were based on 6502, and they were pretty good opponents.

Re: Toledo Nanochess translated to Algol-68

I prefer to think "Why not?". Mr. Dempsey did a great work and decided to share it, if someone enjoys it, learns something new or gets a new idea then it is the whole point :)

Toledo Nanochess translated to Algol-68

Hi everybody. Neville C. Dempsey from New Zeland has done a translation of Toledo Nanochess from C to Algol-68, if anyone wants to give it a look it is now available at my website. http://nanochess.110mb.com/chess3.html Because there are few chess programs in Algol-68, currently it is also the world...
